Let Me Introduce You To..

Vintage Evening Wear
Fashion Merchandising Class B!

As the fashion show fast approaches, I thought it would be nice to give you lovely readers a little extra info on some of those making the show possible. Each mini biography has been writen by someone other than those mentioned to give it an extra special little touch. So, without further adieu, here is a little extra information on the class that will be bringing you all of the wonderful vintage evening looks on Monday 21st!

First up, Miss Caitlin MacKay:

Caitlin Mackay is perhaps the sweetest girl in the class and always has a smile on her face. She can be quite shy at times, however Caitlin always participates in group tasks and helps out as much as she can. She has a great love for fashion and enjoys this course greatly. She is one of the first people I spoke to at the beginning of this course and I can honestly still say that we are good friends.  She can come out with the most random chat and have us all in hysterics! Another thing I love about Caitlin is her unique laugh, she has the cutest giggle and it makes me laugh to hear her laugh. For our end of year fashion show Caitlin is involved in many task such as fundraising and on the day of the event being a dresser backstage.  One more thing you should know about Caitlin, she is a future New Yorker living in Clydebank.
Fiona Johnstone:

Fiona is 21 years of age and is from a little village called Tarbert and currently lives in the west end of Glasgow with her sister. The way that I would describe Fiona’s style is very alternative and punk rocker, as she is never afraid to wear anything and always express’ herself through her style.

For the upcoming charity fashion show Fiona has put in a lot of hard work and she is even going to be one of the very beautiful models on the night. Fiona always brings a smile to your face with her hilarious chat: she once told us that she thought ‘Durex’ was a brand of toilet paper. This completely sums Fiona up!

Sabrina Habib:

Sabrina is a very driven and organised individual and is often found at the heart of organising events. She’s always smiling, very helpful and friendly, which is why she is the main class representative. Sabrina is always stylish and innovative with her dress style and is always ready to take on new challenges. She’s very vocal of her thoughts (that's putting it mildly) and always voices her opinion. In the fashion show, Sabrina is involved in multiple tasks such as fundraising, contacting charities, organising raffles and various other tasks.
Oliver Grant:

Oliver, or Oli as he would rather be called is 20 years old and is originally from Kyle, near the Isle of Skye. He decided to study Fashion Merchandising at COGC because he loves clothes and shopping. He plays a huge part in organising the fashion show and is part of the funding team. Oliver is very driven, always hard working during classes and hopes to go on to do HNC Retail next year. Although he always works hard, he still manages to put a smile on everyone’s face. He is a crucial part of our class, and we couldn’t imagine a day without him.

Christina Arrighi:
Christina Arrighi is a total diva. She loves Fashion, shopping, partying and sunning herself up in exotic locations. You may describe Christina as a real life Barbie, blonde hair, blue eyes, bronzed skin and a ROCKINNNNGGG body. Christina enjoys her weekends working in Mansion House, if not partying the night away in Kushion or Bamboo. She previously studied make up artistry and will be helping out with the makeup and styling in the fashion show. Overall, Christina is a fun and exciting girl who has a great sense of style, loves a good laugh and is always up for a good time.
Robin Wilson:
Robyn Wilson is the social butterfly of the group - yep she’s that girl who knows EVERYONE! If there is one thing she loves in life its dancing. She is part of Platinum Commercial Dance Troupe so she dances A LOT: in the street, in the class, in Hugo Boss where she works...everywhere - she’s definitely not shy! She’s fun and bubbly and loves a giggle. She’s also known as a bit of a heart throb breaking boys hearts all over Glasgow! Finally we can’t forget Robyns biggest asset – her booty, Kylie Minogue eat your heart out. This girl gives Kim K a run for her money! Her main role in the organisation of the fashion show was sourcing clothes and models for the show and she will also be performing with her dance group on the night - so look out for her!

Paula Ferrier:

Paula is 21 years old and lives in Paisley with her wee sister Lucy. She is a very intelligent girl who always speaks her mind. She always has a big smile on her face and keeps the class in stitches. I would describe her style as a bit mod, whilst still looking cute and girly and she is just an all round babe!! She has a great sense of humour and gets on brilliantly with other students and all her lecturers. Paula is a big part of our Fashion Merchandising class; she is great at helping out with the Fashion Show and making sure we’re not messing about (she’s our wee mum of the class). Paula hates hugs but I love them and as my wee bestie of the class, sadly for her I’m always giving her massive cuddles all day!

Tie-Dye Via Amber Mackinnon

Tie-Dye Via Our Very Own:
Amber Mackinnon

For those of you who don't know Amber, she is a 17 year old girl with a love of socialising and vintage fashion finds from Glasgow's south side. Think of the hit TV show Skins and you'll have her. She's a cross between a hippie and an indie kid, so when she told us about a range of tie-dye t-shirts and jewellery that she's currently working on, we weren't exactly surprised. If anything, we were shocked that she managed to keep it a secret for so long!
The t-shirts come in a range of psychedelic colours, with some even having graffiti-style text written across them. She also customises a range of other garments and if you ask her nicely, she'll even take personal requests.
An example of Amber's work.
If you're interested in some tie-dye this season - a big trend in Glasgow at the moment with Chouchou, Bowjangles Vintage and Once Upon A Time - then make sure you purchase a ticket to the Fashion Show on May 21st, as Amber will be setting up a pop-up shop just for the show. We can hardly contain our excitement!

COGC Pop-Up Shop

COGC POP-UP SHOP!!

Leaflet designed by Holly Anderson

Fancy a spot of guilt free shopping tomorrow, Wednesday 25th April? Well City of Glasgow College has just the thing: A Pop-Up Shop! Come along to the canteen in the Charles Oakly building at 12noon (lunch time) and get your hands on some second hand, vintage goodies for your wardrobe. The best part? It's all for a good cause: the proceeds will be going to Quarriers, who is our chosen charity for the fashion show on May 21st.
As I type, our girls are hard at work putting handmade labels onto the garments and getting the leaflets distributed around the college. It will be on a first come, first serve basis so you better get here early as you won't want to miss out on any of the items on offer...

Over at the lovely Bowjangles Vintage store in Paisley, our very own Paula Ferrier has been creating a range of tie-dye t-shirts alongside her sister Lucy to be sold in the store. The t-shirts come in a range of colours and have their very own hand made graffiti style tags. There are designs being drawn up at the moment in the hopes to expand into studded denims, dresses and more, so why not get over to the Bowjangles store now and get your hands on some of the t-shirts! If you can't get over to Paisley, then you're just going to have to attend the fashion show on Monday, May 21st, as there will be a pop up shop with Lucky Pops items on sale - You're not going to want to miss out on this!!

The Proposal

The Proposal

On Tuesday of this week (March 20th) both Fashion Merchandising classes joined together to put together a proposal for out Head of School - and sponsor - Robin McGee, as well as our Head of Department John Heuston and Jacquie Shaw.
We elected four of our best girls; Paula, Sabrina, Louise and Patricia to present the proposal, whilst having another eight be our lovely models in Vintage day and evening wear to illustrate our vision for the fashion show.
(from the left) Jill, Jade, Amber & Taylor in Vintage evening wear
Clothes from Bowjangles Boutique Glasgow
(from the left) Carla, Iona, Emma & Jessie
Clothes are models own.
To get the girls ready for the presentation a lot of hard work went was spent by our hair and make-up team (Kevin, Christina & Holly) and didn't they do a wonderful job?

Kevin getting Jill's hair catwalk ready - Doesn't she look happy?!
Amber being primed to perfection by Christina (who did make-up artistry before joining our Fashion class!)
In addition to being given clothes to use for both the presentation and the fashion show by Amanda at Bowjangles Boutique (who is a star by the way!), our girls brought in various shoes, accessories and jewellery to complete the looks.
Finally it was time for the moment we had all been waiting for; The Proposal. The girls did great in presenting our ideas and visions for the Fashion Show and our Heads of School/Departments were thrilled when the models came strutting into the room unannounced.

Overall, it was a great presentation and we couldn't have asked for more from our girls involved - Well done everybody! If this is anything to judge the Fashion Show by in May, then we cannot wait!

The girls take a group photo with our Head of  School Robin McGee - Say Cheese!

Fund raising

COGC Fundraising Events

Here at COGC we've been organising various fund raising events in a bid to raise money for our annual, end of year fashion show; these events include bake sales, speed dating and even a bring and buy sale (Date TBC) for unwanted clothes and Christmas gifts that we didn't particularly want or need!

A few weeks ago for Valentines day, we held a speed dating event to raise money;
Joan & Maja (two of our best lecturers) and Emma help to make and hang heart shaped decorations to create an atmosphere; "That's amore!"

"Happy Valentines Day!" - "In there like swimwear"

As part of our fund raising efforts, we have previously held bake sales in and around the COGC campus', with another being held today; March 13th 12noon in the Allen Glen and North Hanover campus'.
Here are some photos from our Christmas bake sale;

Becca & Robyn in Charles Oakly; Santas little helpers - Look how yummy those cakes look!

Both events proved a great success with over £200 being raised collectively - Make sure you attend our upcoming events - including todays bake sale (March 13th) - which will be posted on our Facebook & Twitter pages soon!
